Socrates Videocast

Socrates Videocast is a ‘video podcast’ YouTube channel from Socrates Mag, a sports culture magazine. Established in 2015, Socrates Mag has a variety of content that does not focus on a single sport, produces diverse, interdisciplinary content, and prefers to treat sports culture with its motto, ‘the thinking sports magazine.’ For the logo we designed for Socrates Videocast, we took the famous letter 'S' of Socrates, which stands at the core of all its platforms, and combined it with a global communication icon: a speech balloon. With a slight modification of the bottom serif and the help of the round structure of the letter, we positioned the ‘S’ both inside the speech balloon, and also as a part of it. As our corporate font family, we selected ‘Adieu,’ with its sharp/robust anatomy and slanted/back-slanted versions references to the dynamic world of sports. A vibrant color palette balances the overall tone of voice of the emblem and typography combined. We used multiple variations of the speech balloon form in the YouTube thumbnails to enhance the branding.
